Brandon Collins is far from a rookie in a Spec Miata, and even SCCA Spec Miata racing. After a brief tenure in the SCCA Spec Miata class and a couple of Runoffs appearances in 2020 and 2021, Collins took a break from the national circuit. In 2023, Brandon returned to his roots and chased an Autobahn Country Club (ABCC) Spec Miata championship. Collins took a commanding win in the championship, along with one-off victories in a Porsche 911 cup over the course of the year.
In 2024, Collins will be joining Javelin Motorsports to once again contend for a Spec Miata national championship in SCCA. “I'm very excited to start this new adventure,” says Collins. “Obviously I have some experience in SCCA and good knowledge of the Spec Miata field, but this year should give us some new challenges I’m really looking forward to.”
Collins is the first to acknowledge the amount of work that both he and co-founder Sean Varwig have put into the formation of Javelin Motorsports, and both claim that they aren't there to try and finish second. This is no minor feat, though, considering the depth charts that experienced teams will be bringing to the runoffs this year. At the season kickoff in Sebring, the gap between 1st and 2nd in race 1 was just 0.369 seconds.
“The reason we love Spec Miata is because of the competition,” says Collins. “I’m confident in my ability to drive at the front of this field. I have done it before and have shown no signs of slowing down since.”
Collins’s best friend and Javelin Motorsports car chief, Nick Stewart, commented that Brandon is “ The only guy I know that can go from his bed to grid in less than 60 seconds.” when asked about Collins' return.
